24 Trees Cut for Water Channel Retaining Wall Reinforcement

As reported before, the retaining wall of water channel on Jalan Abdul Muis, Gambir, Central Jakarta, is being reinforced with concrete by local Water Management Public Works Sub-Department. At this time, tens of trees around the location are affected by this flood handling project.

If the project is done, we will plant those trees again

“A total of 48 trees were affected by this project. We have coordinated with Central Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department about those trees,” stated Head of Central Jakarta Parks Sub-Department, Jansen Saragih, Tuesday (9/2).

Moreover, Saragih detailed that from 48 trees affected by the project, 24 of them were cut, 20 trimmed, and four removed to other location.

Retaining Wall of Water Channel on Jalan Abdul Muis Concreted

“If the project is done, we will plant those trees again,” he told.

The trees which cut and trimmed consist of 17 mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla) trees, 4 trembesi (rain tree or Samanea saman) trees, 2 angsana (Pterocarpus indicus) trees, and 1 saga (Adenanthera pavonina) tree.

“Those trees are 20 years old and 5 years old,” added Saragih.

For information, the reinforcement of retaining wall of water channel on Jalan Abdul Muis is conducted for as long as two kilometers starting from Budi Kemuliaan Hospital traffic light until behind Coordinating Ministry in Social Welfare Sector office. The project is targeted to finish this year.
